Grover Vineyards, Bangalore, India
Kanwal and Kapil Grover founded Grover Vineyards in 1988 on 40 acres of land at the foot of the Nandi Hills near Bangalore Today, Grover Vineyards has over 200 acres under vines and in contrast to other wine makers in India today, they grow only French wine grapes, rather than dessert grapes. Now they are part-owned by Veuve Clicquot and LVMH.
The wines are made “in collaboration with Michel Rolland” and aren't terribly impressive:
2004 Grover Vineyards
Sauvignon Blanc, Nandi Hills, Bangalore
Spicy, fumé sauvignon blanc. Powerful fruit. Powerful spice. Very
ordinary. 3
2002 Grover Vineyards La
Réserve, Nandi Hills, Bangalore, 13%
A cabernet-shiraz blend. Smoky, toasty vanilla nose. Rich round sweet fruit.
Very dull international style. Good. 4
2003 Grover Vineyards
Cabernet-Shiraz, Nandi Hills, Bangalore, 12.5%
Very, very fruity soft nose with deep blackcurrants. Quite a pure ripe
flavour. Clean fruit followed by grainy tannins.
Good.
